Guide to Agile Release Train

Agile Release Train (ART) is a primary value delivery construct in the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe).

Importance:
ART is particularly important because it aligns teams to a common mission, provides a consistent delivery mechanismand, and fosters cross-functional communication and dependency management, leading to better coordination and synchronization among teams. This enables organizations to deliver value more quickly and handle larger scale projects efficiently.

What It Is:
An Agile Release Train can be viewed as a large agile team, called an 'agile team of agile teams', that works in sync to deliver value in the form of program increments. These release trains typically include between 50 – 125 individuals working in multiple, smaller agile teams.

How It Works:
ART works on a set schedule with predefined Program Increments (PIs). Each PI is a timeboxed planning interval, during which an Agile Release Train delivers incremental value in the form of working, tested software and systems. Aligning teams with the cadence of ART helps assure that the teams in the product development flow stay in sync.

Exam Tips:
- Understand the definition and role of Agile Release Train within SAFe.
- Be able to explain the benefits of working in an Agile Release Train.
- Familiarize yourself with terms related to ART, such as Program Increment and Agile Teams.
- Practice answering situation-based questions where you might have to apply the concepts of ART.

Agile Release Train practice test

Agile Release Train (ART) is a long-lived self-organizing team of Agile Teams that plans, commits, and executes together. ART is a metaphorical train that carries a series of features and enhancements, providing a steady stream of deliverables to customers. It ensures that all teams are aligned and work together towards a common goal, creating an environment that fosters collaboration, communication, and transparency. ART operates on a fixed cadence, usually 8-12 weeks, called Program Increment (PI), during which teams plan, develop, integrate, and deliver incrementally. ART enables organizations to effectively manage dependencies, align cross-functional teams, and accelerate the delivery of value to customers.
