Guide: Inspect and Adapt in Agile Project Management
Inspect and Adapt is a fundamental practice in Agile Project Management where the entire project team gets together to review, analyze and optimize their processes.
Importance: In Agile, quick response to changes and continuous improvement are vital. Inspect and Adapt allows identifying improvements, with learning and continuous refinement at its core. This helps to ensure the project stays aligned with client needs, and provides high value.
What it is: Inspect and Adapt is a collective reflection by the team to identify and discuss learning points and areas of improvement in their work process to continuously improve and produce high quality software. It’s a three-step cyclic process of Inspecting the product/process, Adapting the process/product to improve, and Implementing the improvements.
How it works: Teams 'inspect' through reviews, retrospectives and customer feedbacks. This is not limited to errors but includes practices that worked well. Then they 'adapt' by making necessary changes to the working practices based upon the inspections. Next, they implement, monitor and measure these changes to ensure improvements.
