Guide to Internet Protocol (IP)

Importance:
Internet Protocol (IP) is the fundamental protocol for the internet and is essential for any network communication. It enables the transmission of data over different networks globally, thus making internet communications possible.

What it is:
IP is a set of rules that dictates how data should be sent and received over the internet. It works by assigning unique addresses to each device on a network enabling data to be sent and received correctly.

How it Works:
When a device sends data, the IP is responsible for packaging data into packets, labelling them with the correct addresses, and routing them to the right destination. It also rearranges the packets in order, if they're displaced in transit.

Exam Tips - Answering Questions on Internet Protocol (IP):
1. Understand the Basics: Make sure you know the basic workings of IP, including how it packages and routes data.
2. Know the difference between IPv4 and IPv6: You should be able to distinguish between these two versions of Internet Protocol.
3. Understand IP Addresses: You should understand how IP assigns unique addresses and the structure of these addresses.
4. Practice Questions: The best way to learn is by practicing IP-related questions. This will help reinforce what you've learned and make you more comfortable answering exam questions.

Internet Protocol (IP) practice test

Internet Protocol (IP) is the principal communication protocol used on the internet for relaying datagrams across network boundaries. It provides a functional interface to connect the lower-level link layer (address resolution) and the higher-level routing functionality within the network layer. IP defines addressing and routing mechanisms to ensure data packets are successfully sent from a source host to a destination host. IPs are categorized into two different versions, IPv4 and IPv6. IPv4 utilizes 32-bit addresses, while IPv6 uses 128-bit addresses to support a higher number of connected devices.
