Multiple Team Scrum

5 minutes 5 Questions

Multiple team Scrum is another concept employed to address the challenges of scale. In this approach, different Scrum teams work on parts of the same product backlog, synchronizing their work as needed. This leads to the creation of a potentially shippable product increment at the end of every Sprint. The aim is to keep the focus at the product level rather than individual teams, which need to ensure regular and effective communication. Clear definitions of done and solid alignment on cross-team issues and dependencies are key parameters for success in this approach.

Guide to Multiple Team Scrum

Multiple Team Scrum is a technique within Scrum framework, which allows several teams to work together on a larger project whilst maintaining Agile principles.

Importance: Scaling Scrum to multiple teams is important because it facilitates larger, complex projects to be handled efficiently. It addresses the challenges of aligning the efforts of multiple teams towards the same goal and ensures that the work is synchronized which in turn produces consistent and valuable output.

What it is: Multiple Team Scrum is a scaled Agile framework where multiple Scrum teams work together on a large project. Each team works on different components but towards a common goal, with regular communication and synchronization. It promotes efficiency, improves quality and faster product delivery.

How it Works: In Multiple Team Scrum, each team works in the same iteration cycle. They maintain their respective Scrum events like Daily Scrum, Sprint planning, Sprint review and Sprint retrospective. But they add two more events: Scrum of Scrums (SOS) where representatives from each team meet daily to sync project status and Nexus Integration where integration issues are discussed.
