ScrumMaster Certification Process: Coaching & Facilitation
Coaching and facilitation are integral competencies for successful ScrumMasters. Importance: These skills enable ScrumMasters to guide, support and empower teams to implement agile methodologies effectively, optimising team performance and productivity.
What is it: Coaching involves guiding the team towards self-organisation and cross functionality. A ScrumMaster aids individuals and their team to discover solutions by asking powerful questions rather than providing solutions. Facilitation, on the other hand, is about being neutral and ensuring efficient meetings by managing the process, not the content.
How it works: A ScrumMaster uses coaching and facilitation techniques during Scrum events (planning, daily stand ups, reviews and retrospectives) and any meeting where the team is trying to solve a complex problem.
Exam Tips: When answering questions about coaching and facilitation, ensure to:
- Understand the role of ScrumMaster as a facilitator and a coach.
- Review real-world examples of these competencies in action.
- Understand different techniques and when to use them such as powerful questioning.
- Practice scenario-based questions to understand how to apply these skills in a variety of situations.
