Human Resource Management (HRM) is a vital aspect of the Project Performance Management according to the PMBOK Guide Seventh Edition.
Why it is important: It is the process of managing the people of the project team in an effective way to increase productivity and harmony.
What it is: It involves acquiring, developing, managing and controlling of the project’s human resources to enhance the performance of the project.
How it works: This includes all the stages from hiring team members, assigning tasks, conducting training sessions, resolving conflicts, providing motivational activities and eventually releasing them at project closure.
Exam Tips: Answering Questions on Human Resource Management: Try to understand the underlying principles rather than memorizing the processes. Review 'conflict management', 'motivational theories', and other HRM topics emphasized in the PMBOK Guide. Answer HRM related questions by keeping in mind that 'team' is the most valued resource in any project. Also, practice situational type questions and there may be scenario-based questions in the exam.
