Agile Manifesto
Core values and principles in Agile.
The Agile Manifesto emerged in 2001 when seventeen software developers met to discuss lightweight development methods. They created this manifesto to establish values and principles for better software development approaches. The Agile Manifesto consists of four key values: 1. Individuals and interactions over processes and tools - Emphasizing the importance of team collaboration and communication rather than rigid processes. 2. Working software over comprehensive documentation - Prioritizing functional software delivery instead of excessive documentation. 3. Customer collaboration over contract negotiation - Engaging customers throughout the development process rather than just during initial contract discussions. 4. Responding to change over following a plan - Embracing flexibility and adapting to evolving requirements instead of adhering strictly to predetermined plans. These values are supported by twelve principles that guide Agile practices: - Satisfy customers through early and continuous delivery - Welcome changing requirements, even late in development - Deliver working software frequently - Business people and developers must work together daily - Build projects around motivated individuals - Face-to-face conversation is the most efficient communication method - Working software is the primary measure of progress - Maintain a sustainable development pace - Pay continuous attention to technical excellence - Simplicity is essential - Self-organizing teams generate the best architectures and designs - Teams regularly reflect on effectiveness and adjust accordingly The Agile Manifesto transformed project management by shifting focus from documentation and planning to adaptability, collaboration, and delivering valuable software. It forms the foundation for frameworks like Scrum, Kanban, and XP.
