The Managing Product Delivery process in PRINCE2 7 is one of the seven processes that ensures work packages are properly executed by team managers. This process operates at the delivery level and provides the interface between the Project Manager and Team Manager(s), enabling controlled execution of project work.
The primary purpose of Managing Product Delivery is to ensure that planned products are created and delivered according to expectations. It controls the link between the Project Manager and Team Manager(s), making certain that work is authorized, accepted, executed, and reported appropriately.
This process contains three main activities:
1. Accept a Work Package - The Team Manager receives and confirms acceptance of the work package from the Project Manager. This involves understanding what needs to be delivered, the constraints, tolerances, and reporting requirements. The Team Manager must ensure they have the necessary resources and capability to complete the work.
2. Execute a Work Package - This is where the actual product development occurs. The Team Manager coordinates the team's efforts to create the specialist products defined in the work package. Regular checkpoint reports are provided to the Project Manager to communicate progress, issues, and risks.
3. Deliver a Work Package - Once products are completed and have passed quality checks, the Team Manager notifies the Project Manager that the work package is complete. This includes confirmation that all products meet their quality criteria and that relevant documentation is updated.
Key outputs from this process include checkpoint reports, quality records, and completed products. The process ensures proper communication flows between management levels and maintains product quality throughout delivery.
Managing Product Delivery operates throughout the project lifecycle whenever work packages are being executed, running in parallel with the Controlling a Stage process. It provides essential feedback that enables the Project Manager to maintain control over stage progress and product quality. The Managing Product Delivery process in PRINCE2 7 is one of the seven processes that ensures work packages are properly executed by team managers.
