The Organization and Design Themes

In MSP (Managing Successful Programmes) 5th edition, the seven principles, themes, and processes form the framework, with themes being integrated throughout the programme lifecycle. It involves creating a clear picture of the desired future, identifying benefits, assessing risks, and understanding the changes required. The Design theme incorporates the vision statement, benefits management approach, and the blueprint or target operating model that describes the capabilities the programme must deliver. Together, these themes ensure the programme is properly structured (Organization) and clearly directed toward a well-defined future state (Design). The Organization theme provides the 'who' and 'how' of governance, while the Design theme provides the 'what' and 'why' of the intended outcomes. Both are essential for maintaining alignment, accountability, and value throughout the programme, supporting effective decision-making and successful transformation.
