Product Backlog Management
Processes and strategies for managing the product backlog.
Product Backlog Management in Scrum represents a critical responsibility primarily owned by the Product Owner. The Product Backlog is an ordered list of everything that might be needed in the product and serves as the single source of requirements for changes to be made.

The Product Owner manages the Product Backlog by:

1. Clearly expressing Product Backlog items
2. Ordering items to best achieve goals and missions
3. Optimizing the value of the work the Development Team performs
4. Ensuring the Product Backlog is visible, transparent, and clear to all
5. Ensuring the Scrum Team understands items in the Product Backlog to the level needed

While the Product Owner is accountable for the Product Backlog, they may delegate some of the work to others. However, the Product Owner remains ultimately accountable.

Product Backlog items often include descriptions, order, estimates, and value. They are refined through a process called Product Backlog refinement, where detail, estimates, and order are added. This is an ongoing process where the Product Owner and Development Team collaborate on the details.

Higher-ordered Product Backlog items are usually clearer and more detailed than lower-ordered ones. More precise estimates are made based on greater clarity and increased detail.

The Development Team is responsible for all estimates and should consider the Product Owner's input when making these technical assessments.

The Product Backlog evolves as the product and environment in which it will be used changes. It is dynamic and constantly changes to identify what the product needs to be appropriate, competitive, and useful.

As long as a product exists, its Product Backlog also exists, continually evolving based on market feedback, technical constraints, and new opportunities.
