Scrum Artifacts
Deeper understanding of Scrum artifacts
Scrum Artifacts are essential elements within the Scrum framework that provide transparency, inspection points, and adaptation opportunities for teams. There are three primary Scrum Artifacts: 1. Product Backlog: This is an ordered list of everything that might be needed in the product. It's the single source of requirements for any changes to be made. The Product Owner is responsible for maintaining, prioritizing, and communicating the Product Backlog items. It evolves throughout the project lifecycle and is never complete until the product itself is retired. 2. Sprint Backlog: This artifact consists of the Product Backlog items selected for the Sprint, plus a plan for delivering the product Increment and realizing the Sprint Goal. It's a highly visible, real-time picture of the work the Development Team plans to accomplish during the Sprint. As work progresses, the Development Team updates the Sprint Backlog to reflect their understanding of what needs to be done. 3. Increment: The Increment is the sum of all the Product Backlog items completed during a Sprint combined with the value of increments from previous Sprints. At the end of each Sprint, the new Increment must be "Done," meeting the Scrum Team's Definition of Done and in a useable condition. Each artifact contains a commitment to ensure transparency and focus: - Product Backlog's commitment is the Product Goal - Sprint Backlog's commitment is the Sprint Goal - Increment's commitment is the Definition of Done These artifacts provide the necessary information for the Scrum Team to inspect and adapt their progress toward their goals. They increase transparency by making work visible and create opportunities for inspection and adaptation at key points in the process.
