Scrum Meetings
Knowledge about all the Scrum meetings.
Scrum Meetings are essential ceremonies that provide structure to the Scrum framework and enable transparency, inspection, and adaptation. There are five key Scrum meetings (also called events): 1. Sprint Planning: Occurs at the start of each Sprint where the Scrum Team collaboratively decides what can be delivered in the upcoming Sprint and how that work will be achieved. Time-boxed to a maximum of 8 hours for a one-month Sprint, with shorter Sprints having proportionally shorter planning sessions. 2. Daily Scrum (Daily Stand-up): A 15-minute time-boxed event for the Development Team to synchronize activities and create a plan for the next 24 hours. Typically held at the same time and place each day to reduce complexity. 3. Sprint Review: Held at the end of each Sprint to inspect the Increment and adapt the Product Backlog if needed. The Scrum Team and stakeholders collaborate on what was done and what could be done next. This is a working session, not merely a presentation, time-boxed to 4 hours for a one-month Sprint. 4. Sprint Retrospective: Occurs after the Sprint Review and before the next Sprint Planning. This meeting allows the Scrum Team to inspect itself and create a plan for improvements to be enacted during the next Sprint. Time-boxed to 3 hours for a one-month Sprint. 5. Product Backlog Refinement: Though not an official Scrum event, many teams dedicate time to refining the Product Backlog to ensure items are appropriately prioritized and ready for upcoming Sprints. These meetings foster communication, enable continuous improvement, and help teams maintain focus on delivering value. They create regular opportunities for inspection and adaptation, which are core principles of empirical process control in Scrum.
